Wondering if this is right for you? Let’s clear up a few things.
Coaching can feel like a big step – especially if it’s new, or life already feels full. Below you’ll find honest answers to the most common questions people ask before booking.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, I’m always happy to talk.
It’s a good question. Coaching is present-day and future-focused – it helps you understand where you are now, to take steps towards where you want to be. It’s about reflection, decision-making, and action.
Therapy and counselling often look to the past and may explore mental health or emotional healing.
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or at a crossroads, coaching can be a great fit. If you’re experiencing ongoing emotional distress, trauma, or clinical mental health issues, a therapist or counsellor may be more suitable. If you’re unsure, we can talk about it together and I’ll be honest with my opinion.
This is often part of the work together – identifying the goals, why they matter to you and working to achieve them. If you want something to shift, you’re open for reflection and ready to take steps forward, coaching can help you untangle your thoughts, and move towards clarity and purpose.
I keep an eye on the forecast and use common sense! Some rain or cold is usually fine – it can even add to the experience. But I won’t coach outdoors if there’s a weather warning, high winds, heavy rain – or both. In those cases, we’ll move the session online or reschedule.
Our coaching conversations go at your pace – with some stretch. We can take breaks, sit on a bench, or you can be in your garden on the phone to me – if you have privacy. If you can’t walk far, or are unable to walk we’ll assess the suitability of the location together. It’s your session: let’s make it work for you.
No problem, we can still have coaching walks virtually, as long as there’s wifi or a phone signal. You head to your local green space and we’ll phone-coach with headphones. We’ll describe what’s around us and you’ll describe what’s going on for you. It’s surprisingly powerful.
Absolutely! You choose the location for each session, whether face to face, online or by phone. Some clients start outdoors and move online during poor weather or busy weeks – or vice versa. We’ll find a rhythm that works for your life and energy.
This depends on what you want to explore and the kind of change you’re looking for. Some people come for a few focused sessions, others prefer regular coaching over several months or longer. We’ll check in as we go to make sure it’s working for you. Coaching isn’t about quick fixes – it’s a process that deepens over time, helping you build insight, confidence and momentum.
Yes – a one-off session can be a great way to explore coaching, gain clarity on a specific issue, or get a mindset boost when you need it. While meaningful change tends to happen over time, a single session can offer insight, focus, and a sense of what it’s like to work together.
Let’s start with a free discovery call. If we decide to work together, I’ll share options including a sliding scale of fees and part-payment for block bookings. I accept payment via employers or directly from individuals, using a quick and easy payment link and invoice.
I want coaching to be accessible and fair, so I offer a sliding scale for my one-to-one sessions plus part-payment options for block bookings. So if you’re finding things tight financially, there are a limited number of spaces at a lower-cost. Choose the rate that best reflects your current situation – no questions asked, this is based on mutual trust and respect for both of us.
That’s totally normal and a sign that you’re thinking seriously about change. Coaching is about being open to think deeply and do something differently, with support and accountability.
If you’re not sure, let’s talk. A short discovery call can help you decide if coaching is the right kind of support for you and, if we could work well together. No pressure.
Let's identify your key challenges and how I could help resolve them.

1. Bring my whole self to this process; professionally and personally.
You cannot separate your professional and personal ‘lives’.
2. Be present in the moment and connected.
… to the coaching; what you’re thinking, feeling, experiencing. And…to nature if and where we are outdoors. If we’re on headphones, I’ll invite you to be descriptive of your environment too.
You can do this in several ways:
I will bring the process, tools, ideas, resources and best practice to best support you towards your goal/intention/objective. More in your pre-coaching questionnaire.
4. Give feedback and be responsive.
Coaching is collaborative. Neither of us should guess where we stand. I ask you to give me feedback and respond – you can rely on me to give and do the same.
I aim to get back to you within 24 hours of you emailing me, even if it’s just to say ‘I received your message’ before I respond properly. If it’s over the weekend or holiday, this may take longer.
5. Do the work in the session and in between sessions.
…so that you get the best value, even when it’s challenging. I might suggest a piece of work based on what you brought to the session. Mainly you will decide your course of action.
Whichever way, I’ll invite you to:
6. Session duration and timescale.
I’d been trying to work out ‘what else’ I could do with my career and life.
After 20 years in HR and with the children getting older, I wanted to change careers, but into ‘what?’ And ‘how’ was that even possible? And…’who would take on a mid-40’s apprentice?’!
I took small steps to boost my confidence and mindset; a regular ‘walk and whinge’ with friends to offload, short courses to up-skill, more running, more netball.
I asked my workplace ‘what else’ they needed that I could help with – ‘job crafting’.
I was trying to make changes but it wasn’t really working. I was still frustrated and now, more miserable. I needed a different approach to find a way forward and release the building pressure I felt.
Hiring an accredited coach with whom I knew I could work with, enabled me to take a good look at myself – at times, uncomfortably.
To be listened to without any interruption, or judgement was empowering and I started to recognise what made me, me – my personality, strengths, what energised me and made me happy. What if these things amounted to a job I would…love…?
I followed my curiosity and dabbled with ideas about potential jobs, tasks and environments that would suit me, with a new, growth mindset.
I started to shift perspective. When I finally realised the ‘what’, I felt an energy and sense of knowing that was powerful. And I laughed, because it had been right in front of me!
Coaching undoubtedly helped me get to know myself, to see my potential and what was possible. I wholeheartedly decided through those sessions, on what and how I wanted things to be.
It had taken me two years of feeling stuck and miserable and a number of hours to be liberated.
This is what I now do with my clients. I help them rediscover themselves so that they can play to their strengths and thrive.
